Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai

Written by Asghar Wajahat

Directed by Rajinder Nath

Synopsis

Events of the play take place shortly after the partition of India. That is, a little after August 1947.

The play was read at the Shri Ram Centre play- writing workshop in 1989. After a few months Habib Tanvir tooks it with the Shri Ram Centre Repertory. The first show was put up on 27 September 1990 at Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts. 43 years after the events, by Shri Ram Centre’s Repertory in a memorable production directed by late Habib Tanvir. It could have been easily dibbed as dated then but it was not and sure it would not be even today, 2009.

'Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai', based on the story of an old Punjabi Hindu woman who gets left behind in Lahore, after the Partition of India, and then refuses to leave.

The play does not reject religion but highlights how the anti- social aliments take advantage of it. Perhaps this is the most relevant play written on communal harmony post 1947.
